What is PMP?
PMP, an acronym for Project Management Professional is the world’s most popular project management qualification. The PMP certification is evidence of your experience and ability in leading and managing projects.
The exam curriculum focuses on three domains which are:
- People: Focusing on the leadership skill required to manage a team effectively.
- Process: bordering on the technical aspects of successfully managing projects.
- Business Environment: emphasizing the link between projects, organizational strategy and the wider business environment
The new PMP includes the Predictive (waterfall), Agile and Hybrid key approaches. To know more about PMP, visit our ‘What is PMP?’ page.
What are the PMP prerequisites?
Although the PMP exam has prerequisites, our training does not. The following gives an overview of the PMP exam prerequisites
- A secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree or the global equivalent)
- 7,500 hours leading and directing projects
- 35 hours of project management education
OR - Four-year degree
- 4,500 hours leading and directing projects
- 35 hours of project management education
If you do not meet these requirements, you can do either of the following:
Enrol for the CAPM:
The CAPM is a project management certification by PMI that is not as demanding as PMP. The prerequisites for the CAPM exam include:
- A secondary diploma (high school diploma/global equivalent)
- 23 hours of project management education.
Both PMP and CAPM are based on the PMBoK. The only difference is the way their exams are structured. So, if you are interested in the CAPM certification, all you need to do is to enrol for our PMP/CAP training and register for the CAPM exam afterwards.
Enrol for the PRINCE2 training and exam
The PRINCE2 qualification is a globally recognised qualification for project managers. The PRINCE2 certification is in two stages; PRINCE2 Foundation and PRINCE2 Practitioner. Taking the Foundation exam does not require any prerequisites. Also, taking the PRINCE2 Practitioner exam only requires that you have a PRINCE2 Foundation or PMP certification.

Of what benefit is PMP to me?

- It acts as proof of your project management knowledge and experience on a global level.
- It improves your earning potential. According to PMI’s most recent Project Management Salary Survey 11th Edition, certified Project Managers earn 22% higher on average than their non-certified counterparts.
- It immensely increases your self-confidence.
To know more about how the PMP qualification will benefit you, see our ‘PMP benefits’ page.

- Adaptability: PMP provides a skill set that is globally recognised and is transferable across a variety of industries.
- Risk management: PMP provides you with a toolset for identifying and responding to unplanned events (risk) that might affect the outcome of your project. If the risk is positive, then you will be able to take advantage of it. Whereas, if the risk is negative, you will be able to minimize its impact on your project.
What kind of certificate would I get from PMI?
If successful in the exam, you will get both the electronic and the hard copy of your certificate from PMI, the PMP coordinating body.
What’s the difference between CAMP and PMP?
Before delving into the difference between CAPM and PMP, let’s talk about the similarities. The two qualifications are based upon the PMBok and they are both offered by PMI.
The difference lies in what individuals considering them are expected to know. With CAPM, you are expected to have a fair appreciation of what project management is all about while with PMP, you are expected to have the knowledge, skills and experience in project management.
Their difference can easily be understood by considering the way the two exams are structured. While the CAPM exam questions are knowledge-based, the PMP exam questions are scenario-based.
