Business Analysis Qualifications

Different institutes like International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA®), Project Management Institute (PMI) and British Computer Society (BCS) offer the Business Analysis qualifications. The most popular of them is the IIBA. At Harrybaker, we conduct training on the IIBA’s qualifications and our training covers up to the CBAP level. As a result, we will focus on explaining the IIBA’s Business Analysis qualification on this page.

IIBA® is a Canada-based non-profit organization established in 2003. IIBA is the leading association for business analysis around the globe with over 120 chapters. They act as a voice of the business analysis community. They help professionals working in business analysis or related roles by maintaining global standards for practice through professional development resources, industry research, career resources, leading events, volunteering opportunities, and networking. The IIBA’s Business Analysis qualification is in 3 levels.  Each of them is explained below:

Overview

The ECBA (Business Analysis for beginners) is for individuals with no experience in Business Analysis. It confirms the understanding, familiarity with the terminologies and capability to work as a member of a team.

Prerequisites/eligibility

To sit for the examination does not require any prior Business Analysis experience. However, it is advisable that you take the training before sitting the exam. You will be required to document a minimum of 21 hours of Professional Development Training and agree to the ECBA™ Code of Conduct.

Target Audience

The ECBA™ certificate is targeted at:  

Individuals entering the BA profession:

  • Students enrolled in BA academic programs
  • New graduates
  • Professionals transitioning careers

Exam Format

The ECBA exam is an online proctored exam

The exam is scheduled and written via PSI – requires a working webcam and microphone to verify your identity.

The exam is 1 hour long and consists of 50 multiple choice questions.

How to get certified

To get certified, it is a must that you attend a training program before applying for the exam with IIBA.

At Harrybaker, we conduct training on this qualification. To register for the training, visit our Business Analysis training page. During application, you will be required to pay the application fee of “$60”. Your application can either be approved or not. Upon approval, you will pay the exam fee. The exam fee for a non-member is “$235”, while it is “$110” for a member of IIBA. The membership fee is “$85”.

Recertification

No re-certification is required.

Overview

This Business Analysis qualification is for practitioners who want to be recognized for their expertise and skills. The qualification recognizes professional with 2-3 years of business analysis experience.

Prerequisites/eligibility.

Minimum 3750 hours of BA work experience aligned with the BABOK® Guide in the past seven years, including:

a minimum of 900 hours in each of two of the six knowledge areas or

minimum of 500 hours in each of four of the six knowledge areas.

Minimum 21 hours of professional development training in the past four years.

Two references from a career manager, client, or CBAP® recipient.

Agree to the CCBA® Code of Conduct.

Target Audience

This professional certification is for individuals with high-level Business Analysis experience.

Individuals with an ECBA certificate.

  • Non-BA consultants.
  • Business Analysis Trainers.
  • Project Managers (PMs),
  • Software Testers
  • Quality Assurance personnel,
  • Change Managers, etc.

How to get certified

To get certified, it is a must that you attend a training program before applying for the exam with IIBA.

During application, you will be required to pay the application fee of $125. Your application can either be approved or not. Upon approval, you will pay the exam fee. Exam Format

Sitting the exam is via a Prometric center in Lagos.

The CCBA exam is 3 hours long and consists of 130 multiple choice questions.

The questions require candidates to do a bit of analysis.

Recertification

From the day you pass your exam, you have 3 years before your certification expires. Before the expiration date, you will be notified to renew your certificate. All you are required to do is to report a minimum of 60 Continuing Development Units (CDUs). Complete the CCBA® Re-certification Application and pay the renewal fee which is $85.

The CDU is a unit of measure used by IIBA for recertification. The CDUs are in 6 categories. You can fulfill some of these categories by participating in training opportunities. To fulfill other categories, you can do so by attending webinars, self-study courses, professional development meetings, and other less formal training opportunities to learn about business analysis qualification. One CDU equals an hour spent on any of these activities.

Overview

This Business Analysis qualification is for professionals who manage and lead teams with over 5 years of business analysis experience

Prerequisites/eligibility

Minimum 7500 hours of BA work experience aligned with the BABOK® Guide in the past ten years, including:

a minimum of 900 hours in each of four of the six knowledge areas.

Minimum 35 hours of Professional Development Training in the past four years.

Two references from a career manager, client, or CBAP® recipient.

Agree to the CBAP® Code of Conduct.

Target Audience

This professional certification is for individuals with extensive business analysis experience.

Individuals with a CCBA®  certificate.

Product owners/managers.

Non-BA consultants.

Business Analysis Trainers.

Project Managers (PMs),

Software Testers

Quality Assurance personnel,

Process Improvement Managers

System Analysts

Change Managers, etc.
